When death is near, Randy, or one of your elders are expecting you to contact them. The time of day or night does not matter. Their experience will be of benefit to you.

Funeral Homes

If prior arrangements have been made with a particular funeral service, call them. They answer their phones 24 hours a day. If a death occurs in a health care facility, the administrators will make these calls for you. All you will need to do is sign some release forms. Once you have contacted a funeral service, call the church office. We can help as you make important decisions.

Funeral Costs

In Austin and the surrounding area, a funeral arranged through a local funeral home may vary in price from $2,000 to $14,000. With careful planning, a service will be memorable without being unreasonably expensive. If you were to find it desirable, someone will be happy to accompany you on your visit with the funeral service to provide useful advice.

The minister does not accept any honoraria for officiating at a funeral of one of our members and none are expected and there will be no charge for using the church's facilities for the funeral.

Caskets

Casket cost can be reduced significantly by purchasing from a casket discount service. You are permitted by Texas law to purchase a casket from any source and have it delivered to the Funeral home you have chosen.

Cemetery

Cemetery costs can be expensive. Southern Hills has its own cemetery. This was created as a ministry for our members. If you would like to pick out a plot for you and your family, call the church office and a meeting can be setup for you to see the cemetery plans layout.

Funeral Pre-planning

You may wish to pre-plan a funeral as one way of easing the burden on family in a difficult moment. Contact a Funeral Director from local Austin firms to secure this service. Also, you can pre-plan your funeral service with the minister by calling him and setting up an appointment. Although it may seem awkward to pre-plan your funeral service, it often relieves a lot of stress and frustration. Songs, themes, stories, favorite Bible verses, etc. can be worked out in advance.

Southern Hills Facility Use For Funerals

The auditorium at Southern Hills is often used for both funeral and memorial services. Local funeral directors are familiar with our facility and will accommodate your wishes in this matter.
